The appropriateness of using flagstone pavers in commercial or residential building is based on their availability in a variety of colors, textures, patterns, shapes and finishes. Although concrete is more suitable for driveways and other heavy traffic areas, flagstone is more suitable for patios and walkways. Another advantage of flagstone is that is can be cut into the brick and hence there is no need to run one long runway of brick.
Flagstone Paver Patterns:
Flagstone pavers are larger and expensive than brick. Its varying shapes and sizes enable it to be laid in irregular patterns.
Commonly used flagstone paver patterns include herringbone, basket weave, and running bond and stack bond. Other flagstone paver patterns include diamond run, interpace, Venetian parquet, Jericho stone and cobble-lock. |

HERRINGBONE: flagstone pavers are laid either at a 45 or 90 degree interlock. Commonly used for driveways, walkways and patios.
RUNNER BOND: The sequence of flagstone pavers runs over each other with each layer being laid in the middle of the above or below layer.
BASKET WEAVE: A checkerboard pattern on pavers either laid at a level or angle.
